goodness guys, there’s just been so much going on that i haven’t had time to write in a while. but the cool thing is that it’s all been great stuff. the Lord has been showering blessings down on me, and with each passing day i am continuing to recognize how sweet a time in my life this is. there’s just so much i want to share with you all… stuff that i’ve been blessed by, goings on of my crazy life, thoughts that are running around in my head…
for now, let me share with you some of the highlights of the past seven days or so.
monday i got to go to drew’s baseball game! i love that i get to be involved, even in little ways, in his life. it’s so much fun to support him and love on him in that way. the Lord’s definitely got stuff in store for him, and i’m excited to see what that might be. i got to see kim and troy, his mom and brother, and cheer for drew as he swung and ran and made it to home!
i’m not one to watch baseball very often, but watching drew brought back lots of memories of t-ball and soft pitch back when i was a lot younger. most of those memories consisted of me being really bad at baseball and being terrified that it would hit me and i would die. but there was one memory, of the final game in a tournament… we won our age bracket, and that night i hit better than i ever had before. that is to say, i got to third base in one hit. never had i ever gotten close to that. i got one guy home, and it was the coolest thing ever. for one of the first times, i felt proud of myself. maybe i didn’t suck at sports after all (not the case, but that thought kept me happy for a long time!). like i said, i’m still not a baseball guy, but it’s funny how one moment can make such an impact for such a long time.
josh came to visit ball state! we grabbed some breakfast/lunch and just caught up on life. it was really awesome to see him and hear about all the craziness that comes with being an r.a. and all the cool stuff God’s using him to do. josh is genuine, open, hilarious, and compassionate. getting to see him again was such a blessing.
lately i’ve been so blessed by my life in the suite (and really i mean that each day i just love these guys even more). we are crazy together, we encourage and love on each other, and we’re pointing each other to Jesus all the time. i’m going to be writing more about that real soon. but lots of fun and crazy stuff in my life has to do with those guys. here’s some of the craziness we’ve gotten into the past week.
we got a nice big plastic moose head! at least that’s what the packaging calls it, but the image is clearly… not a moose. it’s a deer. a moose/deer (meer? doose? deuce?) naturally, we tried to attach it to the wall. seeing as how there were literally no directions in the packaging, we came up with our own 8 easy steps. follow along:
- attach string/hook thingy provided with packaging to the back flap thingy of the moose/deer.
- tie three or four random knots you half remember from boy scouts to securely fasten the contraption together.
- hang this moose/deer up.
- refuse to accept this offensively tacky result.
- tie some new knots and try again.
- rethink your strategy and try slapping on some sticky tack to the back of that sucker. that should do the trick.
- pray. pray really hard.
- you know what, just… no.
so that hasn’t been too successful. but we’re still trying to figure something out. maybe buying a headboard of sorts for it so we can superglue it to that, and then attach the board to the wall. we’re still getting all of it worked out. i’ll keep you guys updated, don’t worry.
friday, for the first time ever, i went to the rock climbing area in the rec center with ben, dan, and daniel. and it was really awesome. i’m a scheduler, and so when someone randomly asks if i want to do something for long periods of time that i wasn’t expecting, my first instinct is to shy away from it. but i really just wanted to hang out with the guys, so i ended up going.
and it was awesome!
dan is totally in his element when he climbs. it was really cool watching him do something that he’s so good at… how it fires him up and gets him excited. climbing does for him what writing or singing does for me. and that kind of atmosphere, one of challenge and encouragement and fun, was a great one to experience with the suite guys.
one of my favorite things about the suite is that we all just wander into each others’ rooms and hang out, ask how life is, and encourage each other. sometimes we just bring homework in, and sit without talking or anything. and it’s great. saturday night ben was playing guitar out in the living room, and we decided to look up some songs on the internet to learn hoe to play them. it was great! we learned how great is our God, and looked up some other ones (that were beyond us… for now). it was a blast. i’m glad i brought the guitar, and i’m glad i live with guys who love to jam.
and finally, guys… the suite pictures are complete. we haven’t officially decided which ones are going up, but here are a few of my favorites (edited my my lovely sister emily):
so there’s that. i’m looking forward to plastering some of them on our walls. should be lots of fun.
there’s even more stuff i could go into, but i’m going to save it for a time other than two in the morning, after i’ve had some time to process. suffice it to say, God has been pouring out His blessings, and I am forever grateful.
